Life as we knew it

I have just got a Sony Arc Experia smartphone which has a 8 megapixel camera. Here are some of the first shots taken with it

Bees in the garden

Loca Vore Cafe in Stiling. Great concept. Saving food miles
'research revealed that food items like oranges, sausages, tea, baked beans etc with ingredients sourced from overseas have seen more of the world than most people. The report estimates that the total distance travelled by 29 of our most common food items is 70,803 km—that's nearly two times the distance around the Earth.
Calculating road transport alone, the shopping basket travelled 21,073 km, almost the whole way around Australia's coastline. The resulting greenhouse gas emissions estimate for all food transporting trucks carrying these 25 items on any given day is the equivalent of 2,830 cars driving for a whole year. And that's just for one shopping basket of 25 items.' http://www.ceres.org.au/foodmilesreport
I photographed these roses on Sunday morning whilst walking in Crafers only to have it given to me later that afternoon as birthday present. Thanks Susan.

Barcodes and contraception

 Barcodes and Contraception

Step Right up The Republican Convention of Adelaide has begun

Listening to conservative Republicans  would make a great comedy act at the Adelaide Fringe Festival this week. Here’s a sampling of what they have said  this past week:
GOP Chairman Darrell Issa defending the exclusion of a woman from his all-male panel on contraception: She’s not “appropriate and qualified.” [Read more]
Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld explaining why “liberals” support contraception coverage: “It’s more about getting rid of the poor.” [Read more]
Right-wing billionaire Foster Friess delivering his contraception advice on MSNBC: “You know, back in my days, they used Bayer Aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn’t that costly.” [Read more]
Virginia Republican Delegate Todd Gilbert rationalizing a state-sponsored bill mandating vaginal probes: A woman already consented to being “vaginally penetrated when they got pregnant.” [Read more]
Fox News’ Liz Trotta justifies why some women are assaulted in the military: “Now what did they expect?” [Read more]
Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association on women in combat: “Women are not wired, either by evolution or by God…to be in those positions.” [Read more]
Rick Santorum explaining his concerns about women in combat: “People naturally may do things that may not be in the interests of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved.” [Read more]
At least they’re being honest about what they feel.

The following was sent to me in an email. I have edited some of the overt nationalist rhetoric from it. The facts peak for themselves. Thanks Brian.

Learning from BARCODES
Current Affair reported on frozen vegetables imported from New Zealand.
As it turns out if it is a Coles or Woollies home brand there is a more than good chance that the product has come from China.
Products made by McCain’s, Birdseye and other supposed reputable companies from New Zealand are now purchasing vegie products from China and selling that product under  their name.
Basically check where it is produced by the comments on the back of the pack and if it says produced from New Zealand and Imported product it has Chinese vegies in it.
If it has product of New Zealand, it is possible those vegies in that pack come from elsewhere.
I suppose to play it safe unless it has been grown and packed in Australia stay away from it unless you don’t mind digesting poisons.
The Australian barcode prefix is 93

PLEASE NOTE - if you love Australian produce and the thought of keeping jobs here, AND you like to eat healthy foods and buy quality products, then please read on. DANGEROUS IMPORTED FOODS
There are no food inspection regulations of foods grown or processed in China , Vietnam , Hong Kong or Thailand .
For your Information ... the first 3 digits of the barcode is the country code where-in the product was made.
Example: all barcodes that start with 690; 691 through to 695 are all MADE IN CHINA
 4 71 is Made in Taiwan .
Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products 'made in china', so they don't show from which country it is made.  However, you may now refer to the barcode.

WATCH WHAT YOU BUY. ESPECIALLY 'HIGHLINER' FISH PRODUCTS; all come from China , even though the box says 'product of Canada ', it is from China and 'processed' in Canada , that is, only  the coating is added and packaged in Canada.  The fish are raised in pens using chemicals that are banned in Canada as cancer causing but legal in China .
